Congratulations to our newest fellows!

DANIEL R. KAROLYI, MD, PHD

Daniel R. Karolyi, MD, PhD, is a radiologist and healthcare executive currently serving as Senior Vice President of Carilion Clinic and Chair of the Department of Radiology at both Carilion Clinic and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine in Roanoke, Virginia. In these leadership roles, he provides enterprise-wide strategic oversight including clinical operations, quality and safety, compliance, revenue cycle, education, research, capital planning, and faculty development. Clinically, he practices as a diagnostic radiologist with expertise in advanced body MRI/CT and cardiac imaging.


Dr. Karolyi completed his medical training at the Medical College of Georgia and his graduate training in mechanical engineering and bioengineering at the Georgia Institute of Technology. He completed his radiology residency and body MRI fellowship at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.


Dr. Karolyi is an active leader within the American College of Radiology. He currently chairs the Committee on Strategic Planning and Compliance for the ACR Commission on Publications and Lifelong Learning and previously chaired the Faculty Advisory Committee for the ACR Education Center and the ACR Subcommittee on Measurement and Assessment. For 15 years, he served as faculty for the Body MRI Course at the ACR Education Center in Reston, Virginia, teaching radiologists hands-on courses focused on advanced body and pelvic MRI interpretation, including courses in Sydney and Melbourne, Australia, in collaboration with the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR).


He completed all four levels of the original ACR Radiology Leadership Institute (RLI) curriculum and remains engaged in ongoing RLI programs and initiatives, reflecting his commitment to leadership development in radiology. He has been engaged in research, publications, and national presentations, with his work recognized by the American College of Radiology through first-place honors at the ACR National Quality and Safety Meeting and a Gold Merit Abstract Award at the ACR Annual Meeting.


Through his leadership, dedication to education, and scholarly contributions, Dr. Karolyi continues to advance the field of radiology while promoting excellence in patient care, safety, and professional leadership.

HARLAN VINGAN, MD

Dr. Harlan Vingan, MD, is a highly respected interventional radiologist with more than three decades of experience serving the Hampton Roads community. He earned his medical degree from the State University of New York Downstate Medical Center College of Medicine before completing his internship, residency, and fellowship training at Duke University Medical Center, where he developed advanced expertise in minimally invasive, image-guided procedures.


Following his specialized training, Dr. Vingan brought cutting-edge interventional radiology techniques to the Hampton Roads region, helping to expand access to innovative, less invasive treatment options. Over the course of his career, he has become a leader in his field, known for both clinical excellence and dedication to advancing interventional radiology practice.


Dr. Vingan holds board certification from the American Board of Radiology, along with a Certificate of Added Qualification in Interventional Radiology. In addition to his clinical work, he has contributed to the academic community as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He also serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Vascular and Interventional Radiology, reflecting his engagement with ongoing research and advancements in the specialty.


Recognized for his outstanding contributions to patient care, Dr. Vingan has been named a Castle Connolly Top Doctor annually since 2014. Under his leadership, Eastern Virginia Medical School achieved Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) approval for an Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) track in 2019, further demonstrating his commitment to training the next generation of interventional radiologists.

Fellowship

 ACR Fellowship is awarded to members of the College in good standing who have demonstrated service to ACR; evidenced significant accomplishments in scientific or clinical research in the field of radiology; made significant contributions to literature; and/or provided outstanding work as a teacher of radiology. Only 10 percent of College members have been awarded this honor.


Fellowship is awarded to diagnostic radiologists, radiation oncologists, interventional radiologists, medical physicists, and nuclear medicine physicians at the Convocation held during the ACR annual meeting.
